Switzerland Voted a Ban Against Minarets
Posted on Monday, November 30th, 2009
Swiss citizens voted a “positive yes” to amend Swiss constitution in support of prohibition of minarets; a vote that ill most probably be rejected.
This has sent a feeling of sadness in the Muslim community of the country which comprises six percent of the Switzerland population.
This vote was backed by around 57.5% voters of the country and also supported by the National Swiss People’s Party. The ban will not affect the existing monuments and it is argued that Minarets are symbols of Muslim densities.
Micheline Calmy-Rey, Foreign Minister said she was shocked for this voting.
