The 24-year-old Nadal outplayed the error-prone Soderling and ended any doubt over his status as the king of clay, gave him his seventh grand slam title and will see him overtake Roger Federer as world’s number one tomorrow, June 7.

The battle began in bright sunshine, a perfect clay court day for Nadal. Soderling made the more impressive start, holding his opening two service games, but failed to make the most of Nadal errors that gave him 30-40 in game four but had his opponent rattled when the Spaniard challenged a serve at 15-30 in the next, only for umpire Cedric Mourier to disagree. Still, Nadal was able to make two break points, taking advantage of Soderling’s suicidal cross court backhand.

Robin Soderling began hitting more errors than winners, summed up in game seven when he slumped from 40-0 and had to save two more break points.

Same thing happened in the next, making more mistakes and handing Nadal 0-40. Although he served his way out of trouble, he was not able to stop his opponent serving out the set.

The momentum momentarily shifted for Soderling when he had four break points in game two of the second, but Nadal produced some incredible shot-making to break to love in the next. A double-fault gave Nadal the first of two double-break points in game seven, and eventually won the set.

Soderling rallied to break-back point in the next, but still, Nadal refused to yield and held his nerve to seal a 6-4 6-2 6-4 victory over the Sweden.

The 29-year-old pro wore a micro-mini black lace dress complete with red hot piping harked back to a 19th century chorus line, not to mention nude undies that kept peeking out with each swing.

Last January in Australian Open, Venus was also wearing a green skimpy uniform and a similar underwear that she worn in French Open 2010. At the Sony Ericsson Open last March, she wore a red, spaghetti-strapped dress trimmed with a flounce ir ruffles. Venus Williams told the Los Angeles Times that her outfit was “about illusion…a lot of my motif this year,” and added that she tends to bring eight to ten outfits to each tournament in case she wins.

After Roger Federer defeated Nikolay Davydenko, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is now also headed to the semifinals of the Australian Open. Tsonga defeated Novak Djokovic in a five-set match.

“I think I was just in a good form, I might be better than him (in the end). He played unbelievable in three first sets, he was amazing. Finally I won, and I am happy with that,” said Tsonga as he speaks after the match.

Marin Cilic and Andy Murray are scheduled tomorrow for their semifinals match. The game will start at 7:30 PM local time in Australia.

Tsonga will also face the World’s No. 1 Roger Federer in the semifinals.
